Despite Labor Day holiday, plenty going on around town

September 4, 2018

With Labor Day cutting the week short, it could be a leisurely week for Katy residents. But that does not mean there is nothing going on.

Flushing the system

The city of Katy has scheduled the flushing of the fire hydrants and water lines throughout the city beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Required by the Department of Environmental Protection to help maintain the lines, residents may notice that water pressure drops during the times lines are being flushed. According to the city, hydrant flushing will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Residents are reminded that flushing the system may lead to discolored water coming out of faucets but there should be no health concerns. The city reports that “if you experience discolored water, run the cold water in all your faucets for approximately 5-10 minutes or open the outside faucet closest to your water meter for several minutes before using the water.”

If laundry becomes stained by the process, the clothes should not be moved from the washer to the dryer. Instead, the clothes should be washed again as soon as possible.
