PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Pasadena police say two people are in custody after a vehicle pursuit in which an officer fired a shot but no one was hit.

A police statement says the incident began shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday when officers attempted a routine traffic stop but the driver sped away.

The driver lost control and crashed, leaving the vehicle facing the oncoming officers.

The Police Department says officers ordered two people to get out of the vehicle but the driver instead started it and attempted to flee in the direct path of the officers, and one of them fired his weapon.

Both occupants of the vehicle were then taken into custody.

The incident remains under investigation.
