ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Crestwood’s Wyatt Malia

April 15, 2019

Crestwood junior Wyatt Malia added another milestone to his resume.

Having already surpassed 100 career assists as a sophomore last season, Malia earned his 100th career goal with the Comets last weekend against Saucon Valley.

He also scored three goals and assisted four others to help Crestwood beat previously unbeaten Dallas on Wednesday.

For his achievement, he was named Citizens’ Voice Athlete of the Week.

Was getting 100 goals something you dreamed of doing when you first started to play for Crestwood?

Yeah, definitely, it’s a really great milestone to set the bar.

How do you think this season’s been going for the Comets?

Good, we have a tough schedule, and we’ve been playing well.

You won the district title last season, and I’m sure you’d like to win again, so what will it take to get back to the championship?

Yeah, we would want another district title. It would definitely take hard work. We have to be focused, and we have to be playing as a team.

You have a lot of great teammates who can also score and assist on a lot of goals. What’s it like to play with such a good group?

It’s really fun, and it’s really helpful to have a bunch of other skilled players around you. That helps a lot.

You opened this season with a loss against York Catholic, who beat your team in the state quarterfinals last season. Is there anything you learned from that game that could help if you get back into the state playoffs?

Probably don’t take anything for granted, because last year, it was a really close game, and I think this year we kind of came in expecting it be another close game. But they kind of took us by surprise and got off to an early lead.
