Murray State 86, Western Kentucky 75

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) _ Rod Murray scored a game-high 26 points and De’Teri Mayes added 21 points and 11 rebounds Sunday as Murray State remained unbeaten with an 86-75 victory over Western Kentucky.

The Racers (9-0) also had four players with seven or more rebounds as they outrebounded the Hilltoppers (3-4) 48-28.

Murray State led 43-31 at halftime but couldn’t pull away from Western Kentucky until late in the game. The Hilltoppers’ smothering defensive pressure at the outset of the second half allowed them to pull within three at 55-52 on a Steven Bides 3-pointer with 10:26 remaining.

Foul trouble plagued Western Kentucky as six Hilltopper players had three or more by the 11:47 mark of the second half.

In addition to Murray _ who also had seven rebounds _ and Mayes, Isaac Spencer had 18 points and nine rebounds and Chad Townsend added 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Racers.

Bides led Western Kentucky with 21 points _ including 3-of-5 from 3-point range _ while Maurice Strong, Monty Latimer and Greg Springfield each added 11 for the Hilltoppers.
