March 25, 2019

Twenty people : including firefighters, police officers, medics and OmniSource personnel : were recognized today for helping save the life of a man who suffered a heart attack on the business’ property.

Steve Hoffman, the Construction Resources of Indiana employee who was saved, attended the ceremony at Mayor Tom Henry’s office but declined to speak to media.

Chris Stabler of Geiger Excavating Inc. spoke on his behalf. The men know each other through work.

“For somebody to take that time to do everything it takes to save a life, it’s very special to me,” Stabler said.

Josh McDougall of OmniSource said it’s common for people to become spectators when faced with an emergency.

“I can tell you that the actions of the individuals involved on that chilly January morning were nothing short of brilliant,” McDougall said.

Henry presented certificates of excellence to those involved, describing them as “shining examples” of the type of citizens the city is proud of and wants in the community.
