HOUSTON (AP) — Marcus Evans scored 30 points — two off the freshman’s career high — and Rice beat Florida International 86-70 on Saturday for its third win in a row.
Evans was 11 of 17 from the field with three 3-pointers. He grabbed five rebounds, had three assists and a career-best six steals. Egor Koulechov scored 21 points with nine rebounds, Connor Cashaw had 15 points with nine boards and Marquez Letcher-Ellis added 12 points for Rice (11-16, 6-8 Conference USA).
Rice led all the way in this one. The Owls were up by 10 with 1:23 left in the first half and closed on an 8-0 run that made it 52-34 at the break.
Evans’ 3-pointer to start the second half pushed the lead over 20.
FIU (12-16, 6-9) was led by Daviyon Draper with a career-high 26 points. Adrian Diaz had 12 points to eclipse the 1,000 point-mark in his career. The Golden Panthers have lost 7 of 8.
