Free Winona Tour Boat rides part of Minnesota Marine Art Museum’s next Second Saturday event
The next Second Saturday program hosted by the Minnesota Marine Art Museum will feature free tour boat rides with paid admission on the Mississippi River.
Second Saturdays offer $1 admission and a variety of activities for all ages based around a specific theme. August’s theme is the “Mighty Mississippi.”
Programming includes 30-minute museum tours with three different focuses. The MMAM highlights tour will focus on some of the most popular works in the museum. A “Trip Down The Mississippi Tour” will explore how artists have depicted the Mississippi River over the years. A 20-minute kids tour is designed for young art lovers and their chaperones. For a complete list of tour starting times, go to www.mmam.org/SecondSaturdays.
You can’t talk about the Mississippi River without getting on the water, so as a special treat, the Winona Tour Boat will be giving free 45-minute river cruises at 11:00 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Space is limited on the boat, so please register at the front desk to reserve a space. You must be present at the front desk with a paid admissions sticker to register the day of the event.
Available all day are Mississippi River themed art activities in the museum’s Oberton Education Room, where budding artists of all ages can paint wooden fish and create a pebble picture.
Winona’s own The Dust Settlers will perform old-time fiddle and banjo music in the galleries from 2-3 p.m.
The museum is able to offer this program thanks to a prestigious arts access grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. The highly competitive process encourages arts organizations across the state to invest in programming that creates long-term engagement between arts organizations and their communities.
