San Antonio bars sold more than $300 million worth of alcohol in first 6 months of 2018

San Antonio racked up more than $50 million in bar tabs in June as residents tried to beat the summer heat, state records show.

Bartenders in Bexar County served up $53.8 million worth of beer, wine and liquor last month, according to the latest available records from the Texas comptroller’s office —compared with $47.3 million in June last year.

Altogether, San Antonio drinkers imbibed $335.8 million in alcoholic beverages from January to June, data shows.

Hospitality International Inc. — which handles concessions for the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa — topped all other area alcohol sellers in June with $1.8 million in mixed beverage receipts.

But Hospitality International came in third statewide behind the Gaylord Texas resort in Grapevine and Aramark Sports and Entertainment Services of Texas, the concessions contractor for Minute Maid Park — which sold $1.8 million and $2.3 million, respectively.

DH San Antonio Bevco Inc., the concessions contractor for La Cantera Resort & Spa, was the closest runner-up among San Antonio-area establishments with almost $781,000 in sales — far ahead of HRHC Inc., which handles catering for Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort and Spa. HRHC, which sold the third-most amount of booze in San Antonio last month, poured more than $443,000.

Howl at the Moon in downtown San Antonio took the fourth place spot locally with about $406,000 in alcohol sales in June.

Rounding out the local top five last month was Little Woodrow’s with more than $405,000, according to the comptroller’s office.

San Antonio theme parks managed to crack the top 20 alcohol sellers last month. SeaWorld San Antonio sold more than $340,000 of alcohol in June while Six Flags Fiesta Texas sold about $259,000.

Overall, Texas establishments, venues and bars served almost $599 million in booze last month and $3.6 billion from January to June.
