Area senators assigned to committees

LINCOLN — The state senators who represent Northeast and North Central Nebraska in the Legislature now know which legislative committees they will be a part of.

Committee assignments were decided and announced Wednesday as part of the opening day of the 2019 session.

Sen. Jim Scheer of Norfolk was re-elected speaker of the Legislature, while Sen. Tom Briese of Albion was elected chairman of the General Affairs Committee. Sen. Tom Brewer of Gordon, whose district includes much of North Central Nebraska, will serve as chairman of the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs committee.

Here is a list of committees that area state senators will serve on:

— Sen. Joni Albrecht of Thurston represents the 17th District that covers Dakota, Thurston and Wayne counties. She will serve on the Agriculture, General Affairs and Natural Resources committees.

— Sen. Tom Brewer of Gordon represents the 43rd District that includes Brown, Cherry and Keya Paha counties. In addition to serving as chairman of the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs committee, he also will serve on the Education committee.

— Sen. Tom Briese of Albion represents the 41st District, which includes Boone, Antelope, Pierce, Wheeler and Greeley counties. In addition to serving as chair of the General Affairs committee, he will serve on the Revenue and Urban Affairs committees.

— Sen. Timothy Gragert of Creighton represents the 40th District that is made up of Knox, Boyd, Cedar, Dixon, Holt and Rock counties. He will serve on the Banking, Commerce and Insurance, and Government, Military and Veterans Affairs committees.

— Sen. Ben Hansen of Blair represents the 16th District that is made up of Burt, Cuming and Washington counties. He will serve on the Agriculture, Business and Labor, and Health and Human Services committees.

— Sen. Mike Moser of Columbus represents the 22nd District that is made up of Platte, most of Stanton and part of Colfax counties. He will serve on the Agriculture, General Affairs and Natural Resources committees.

— Sen. Lynne Walz of Fremont represents the 15th District that is made up of Dodge County. She will serve on the Education and Health and Human Services committees.
