WESTFORD -- Authorities identified the body found by a road in Westford over the weekend as a 38-year-old Springfield woman, according to a statement from Middlesex District Attorney spokeswoman Meghan Kelly.

The office did not released her name.

Police were called to 104 Providence Road about 11:40 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a body located on the side of the residential road.

“This is actively being investigated as a suspicious death based on the location and because the female was not dressed in appropriate clothing for cold temperatures,” Kelly said.

The woman was not immediately identified by authorities.

Neighbors interviewed on Saturday at the scene, a wooded rural neighborhood, said they were surprised. A few said they spoke to the police, but did not have any answers.

A young man said a woman had been found in the snow and a member of his household reported the discovery.
