U.S. Air Force Sergeant Stabbed to Death
NAPLES, Italy (AP) _ Police today were searching for a motorist who fatally stabbed a U.S. Air Force sergeant with a broken radio antenna.
The victim in the Monday incident was identified by the U.S. 6th Fleet in Naples as Timothy Anthony Carter, 24, of Mobile, Ala.
Investigating police officer Ferinano Palombi said Carter was riding in a car driven by a U.S. sailor from the Naples base when a vehicle passed them and insults were exchanged.
Carter was stabbed in the stomach during the melee on a highway outside Naples and died while being transported to a hospital, Palombi said.
Police were searching for the assailant, believed to be from Naples, he said.
Italian police had earlier identified Carter as a sailor in the U.S. Navy.
