OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma State football coach Bob Simmons remains at University Hospital, where he underwent surgery for an undisclosed reason this week.

Natalea Watkins, director of communication services at Oklahoma State University, said Friday that people who talked with Simmons described him as doing well and sounding great.

The family has asked the hospital not to release details on the type of surgery Simmons had. Information also was not available on when the surgery occurred.

Allen Poston, a hospital spokesman, said Simmons planned to make a statement upon his release.

``At the request of the Simmons family, they don't want us discussing when he might be released,'' Poston said Friday.

Simmons has been Oklahoma State's coach for three years. His 1997 team went 8-4, including the school's first bowl appearance in 10 years.
