Tigers Release Pitcher Gary Knotts

October 10, 2005

DETROIT (AP) _ Detroit Tigers pitcher Gary Knotts was released and pitcher Sean Douglass claimed off waivers Monday by the Cleveland Indians.

Right-hander Knotts did not pitch last season because of a sore right shoulder after going 7-6 in 36 games _ including 19 starts _ with a 5.25 ERA in 2004. In three-plus seasons with Detroit and Florida, Knotts is 13-16 with a 5.45 ERA.

Douglass, also a right-hander, was 5-5 last season with a 5.56 ERA in 16 starts and two relief appearances. He has a 7-13 record with a 6.11 ERA with Detroit, Toronto and Baltimore.

Clearing waivers were right-handed pitchers Matt Ginter and Jason Karnuth, left-handed pitchers Doug Creek and Vic Darensbourg, and infielder Kevin Hooper. The Tigers outrighted their contracts to Triple-A Toledo. Creek, Darensbourg, Ginter, Karnuth and Hooper elected to become free agents.
