THE ROYAL BUCKET

UNDATED (AP) —Invitations to the upcoming royal wedding may be in short supply, but not commercial items. A chicken bucket, a transatlantic biscuit and swimsuits adorned with pictures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are among mementos that have been created to mark the occasion. Brands and companies are eagerly promoting products designed to celebrate the nuptials with less than a week until the couple say "I do". Royal fans can ensure they remember the historic day forever by buying souvenir tea towels and mugs. Retailer John Lewis is expecting to shift around 22,000 wedding-related items from china mugs to party napkins and tea towels.

MARKING THE OCCASION

BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan boy found a way to make his mark on the occasion of his mother's marriage proposal. Allyssa Anter said "yes" Saturday to the question popped by her boyfriend, Kevin Przytula. Video shows the bride-to-be and man on bended knee are blissfully unaware that right next to them, 3-year-old Owen Anter had dropped his pants to urinate in front of Bay City's Ring of Friendship sculpture. They were alerted to the pint-sized proposal crasher by the giggling videographer, Przytula's 11-year-old daughter, Kayleigh. Allyssa Anter says her son "stole the show," and acknowledges his potty training is a work in progress.

PROM-DANNY DEVITO CUTOUT

CARLISLE, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania high school student took an unorthodox approach to prom and brought a cardboard cutout of actor Danny DeVito to the dance. WHTM-TV reports Allison Closs and her famous two-dimensional date joined other Carlisle High School seniors Friday for prom. Closs purchased the cutout of DeVito online along with a scooter she used to move the figure with. DeVito starred in the classic TV series "Taxi" and films including "Twins" and "Batman Returns." He also starred in the hit comedy "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."

TURTLE POWER

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) —A police officer in New Jersey took no chances when he helped a snapping turtle safely cross a road. In video posted on the Hamilton Township Police Facebook page, the officer is seen using a shield to protect himself from the turtle's fierce bite. The turtle lunged at the shield several times. The department, in Atlantic County, said it is not sure the shield was meant to be utilized for that purpose.

STOLEN CAR-LAKE

RIDGELAND, Miss. (AP) — This one got away, but not forever. Police at one Mississippi lake have made an unconventional catch — a car stolen 22 years ago. Ross Barnett Reservoir Police say a fisherman on Friday alerted them after seeing an unusual image on sonar usually used to find fish. Divers from the Ridgeland Police Department responded Sunday, finding and pulling out a car "in very poor condition." At first, police couldn't find any information on the vehicle or its owner. But the National Insurance Crime Bureau says the car is a 1989 Mazda RX-7 stolen from nearby Jackson in 1996.

CAT CAFE

HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — A new Idaho animal shelter will feature a "cat cafe," where potential pet owners can order a coffee or cookies and go into a petting area to socialize with the shelter's felines. The Times-News reports the new $16 million Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley in Hailey, which is under construction, is set to open at the end of the year. The shelter also will feature "Central Bark," a space that will offer on-leash dog walking and a splash pad. As of last week, the shelter had raised $14.2 million of the needed $16 million for its new facility. This is its third year of fundraising.
