CoreLife moving ahead with local project
A project to build a CoreLife Eatery in Allen County is up for bid.
A tip from a Dish reader sent us to Dodge Lead Center, an online construction projects resource, where CoreLife Eatery is among search results for Indiana with a project listed in Allen County. The project is valued at $299,999, and the bid date is listed as Aug. 2.
CoreLife announced in March 2017 that it would open 10 restaurants in Indiana over the course of four years, including in Fort Wayne. The company’s website lists a Fort Wayne location coming soon but no address or details are listed. Locations are listed for open restaurants in Indianapolis, Lafayette and Mishawaka.
CoreLife Eatery began in 2015 with a restaurant in Syracuse, New York. The menu features green bowls, grain bowls, broth bowls and made-from-scratch beverages. It is vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free friendly.
CoreLife Eatery plans to expand to 300 total locations, including corporate and franchise restaurants, in the next four years.
Bob Evans closes
Bob Evans has closed its Auburn store, the latest closure in the area for the Ohio-based restaurant.
The phone number for the location at 121 Touring Drive is no longer in service, and a message redirects callers to the corporate-office phone number.
Bob Evans operates four restaurants in the area : three in Fort Wayne and one in Columbia City.
In recent years, restaurants on Coliseum Boulevard East and Jefferson Pointe have closed. Those buildings remain unoccupied.
In April 2016, Bob Evans announced it would close 27 restaurants in an effort to boost operating income by $1 million.
Cat cafe proposed
A local woman has started a crowdfunding campaign in an effort to bring a cat cafe to Fort Wayne.
Jenny Nolt hopes to open Cat’s Meow Cafe, which would offer a fun atmosphere to enjoy gourmet coffee and espresso drinks while spending time with cats who are up for adoption through Helping Paws in Huntington. Roasts would also be available online.
Cat cafes started in Japan and are increasing in popularity all over the world.
A crowdfunding campaign for Cat’s Meow Cafe is now live on IndieGoGo and will help raise money to finalize the cafe. Money raised will go toward rental space, renovations and equipment among other things.
Now is the time to get your tickets for Science Central’s “Mixology: Battle of the Bartenders III” happening Nov. 9.
The fundraiser for Science Central is for ages 21 and older and includes food, cocktails, entertainment, a silent auction and, of course, science.
The theme is Speakeasy and attendees are encouraged to wear attire from the Roaring ’20s.
Through Aug. 31, tickets are available at a discount price and includes an extra drink ticket per person. The cost is 110 for couples, including six drink tickets; and $300 for groups of six, which includes 18 drink tickets.
Tables are not included with your tickets, so don’t forget to reserve yours when you buy your tickets. Table prices are 150 for a table that seats up to eight.
Local truck honor
Who Cut the Cheese? has been listed among the top 10 grilled cheese food trucks of 2018, and it is competing to win 2018 Grilled Cheese Food Truck of the Year.
The contest is one of many hosted by Mobile-Cuisine.com, and Fort Wayne food trucks have regularly been among the finalists for the contests.
Who Cut the Cheese?, which is run by Lori Koble, is up against trucks from North Carolina, Rhode Island, Florida, Texas and Ohio among others.
Fans can vote daily on Mobile-Cuisine.com through Aug. 17. Results will be announced Aug. 20.
Koble, who has operated Who Cut the Cheese? since 2015, has listed the food truck for sale but says she will evaluate that decision at the first of the year.
