Students from Beaver Dam participated in Badger Conference Honor Band
Six students from Beaver Dam High School were chosen to participate in the Badger Conference Honor Band earlier this week.
Beaver Dam High School students Michael Walton, Sydney Wolfgram, Robin Carpenter, Lucas Smith, Ayla Loomans, and Elise Zahs were chosen to participate in the Badger Conference Honor Band at Monona Grove High School Tuesday.
The best band students of the Badger Conference are chosen for the performance, Beaver Dam High School band director Russell Diggins said.
“We just joined the conference last year,” Diggins said.
The students had to apply to perform in the band, and the band directors used information such as how they performed at solo ensemble, where they sit in the band and if they had been in any honors groups before in order to choose who would perform, Diggins said.
“I thought it would be fun to play instruments with new people and to go with friends and have a fun experience together,” Loomans said.
The students went to a six hour rehearsal in Monona on Monday and returned on Tuesday for a final rehearsal before the concert.
“It was fun,” Walton said. “We left right after school on Tuesday and worked with a lot of very talented musicians.”
The group was directed by University of Indiana professor Demondre Thurmon.
“It is different working with every conductor that you work with,” Wolfgram said.
“This is honestly the best group of people we could have gone with,” Loomans said.
