Former Texas Tech player indicted for indecency with child
SLATON, Texas (AP) _ Former Texas Tech defensive back Bart Thomas has been indicted on a felony charge of indecency with a child.
Thomas, 26, a teacher and track coach at Slaton Junior High School, was indicted Wednesday on a charge accusing him of fondling an eighth-grade student. Slaton is 12 miles southeast of Lubbock.
Thomas’ brother, Zach Thomas, also starred at Texas Tech and was a starting linebacker for the Miami Dolphins last season as a rookie.
Neither Thomas nor his attorney, Floyd Holder, could be reached for comment Wednesday, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported today. Court documents indicate Thomas has been suspended from the school with pay.
The student told investigators that Thomas grabbed her, pulled her toward him and rubbed her buttocks. She said he also pressed his body against her, touched one of her breasts and asked her if she liked to flirt.
As a senior in 1994, Thomas tied for the Southwest Conference lead with six interceptions and was a consensus all-conference selection.
