Michael Jackson’s Neverland Estate a Storybook Site for Wedding With AM-Taylor Wedding, Bjt
LOS OLIVOS, Calif. (AP) _ Michael Jackson transformed his lavish Neverland ranch into a fanciful site for the sunset wedding of pal Elizabeth Taylor.
A wooden gazebo and walkway were erected for the ceremony in a garden 100 yards from the Jackson mansion. Huge white tents went up just hours before Sunday’s wedding of Miss Taylor and Larry Fortensky.
The 2,700-acre estate, a lush oasis in the drought-parched Santa Ynez Valley 100 miles northwest of Los Angeles, already featured such eye-popping attractions as a zoo and a big top circus with ferris wheel and water slide.
Jackson frequently opens the amusement park area to disadvantaged youngsters. His menagerie includes llamas, a giraffe and his chimpanzee, Bubbles.
There’s also a lagoon outside the gray, English Tudor estate and huge trees shading thick, green lawns. Jackson has two helicopter pads on the property and his own Neverland Fire Department.
The Jackson ranch is about a three-hour drive from Los Angeles. Guests drive through the towns of Buellton, Solvang, Santa Ynez and Los Olivos before heading up two-lane Figueroa Mountain Road to the compound.
The property, near the foothills of Los Padres National Forest, is out of sight from the road.
