Danbury fifth graders to compete in state competitions
DANBURY — A pair of fifth grade students in Danbury are taking their spelling and geography talents to state competitions this month.
Western Connecticut Academy of International Studies student Sandya Sudarsanam will compete in the Connecticut Spelling Bee on Saturday for the opportunity to go to this year’s Scripps National Spelling Bee.
King Street Intermediate student Aditya Jay “A.J.” Singh will compete later this month in the state-level competition of the National Geographic Bee. He competed at the state competition last year but did not make it into the final round and hopes to advance further this year, he said.
Both students hope to make it to their respective national competitions in Washington, D.C. at the end of May.
