No. 24 Alabama 76, No. 23 Auburn 72

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) _ Nicole Carruth scored 18 points on six 3-pointers and No. 24 Alabama held off 23rd-ranked Auburn 76-72 Friday night in the Southeastern Conference tournament quarterfinals.

Alabama (19-9) will meet Kentucky, a 92-80 upset winner over No. 17 LSU, Saturday night in the semifinals.

Auburn (19-8) trailed much of the second half but used a 14-5 run capped by Tasha Hamilton’s driving layup to pull within 71-70 with 1:45 left. But Auburn missed three shots in the final minute as Alabama hit 5-of-8 at the free throw line to seal the victory.

The Tigers hit their first five shots in grabbing a 14-7 lead. Alabama stayed in the game behind Carruth, who hit consecutive 3s to pull the Crimson Tide within 14-13.

The teams swapped the lead nine times with four ties until Alabama took control in the second half. Kaunda Williams hit three 3s and scored all of her 13 points in helping Alabama open up a 59-52 lead with 12:21 to go.

Dominique Canty added 14 points for Alabama, which now has won six of its last seven games. LaToya Caudle also had 10.

Hamilton, Shana Askew and Shera Looney scored 16 apiece for Auburn.
