Daughter Accused of Setting Fatal House Fire Because of Dispute with Mom
AVELLA, Pa. (AP) _ A college student home for Thanksgiving set her house on fire, killing her father, because her mother had been arguing with her about going to a nearby bar, police said.
Melanie Vicheck, 19, was charged with murder and arson. She sprayed WD-40 lubricant throughout the basement and living room and ignited the fire early Wednesday, according to a state police affidavit.
Edmund Vicheck rescued his wife, Patricia, by dropping her from a second- story window, and later died of smoke inhalation, County Coroner Tim Warco said.
Police said Miss Vicheck had planned the crime for about a week because of a running dispute with her mother. Hours before the fire, Miss Vicheck had been arguing with her mother about going to the bar.
She was arrested after returning home about 9 a.m.
Mrs. Vicheck was in serious condition Thursday night with burns, a broken wrist and back and knee injuries.
