(AP) — Pekka Rinne (PEH’-kuh REE’-nay) turned back 23 shots and the Nashville Predators evened the Stanley Cup final at two games apiece by beating the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-1. Frederick Gaudreau snapped a 1-1 tie early in the second period before Viktor Arvidsson beat Matt Murray less than 10 minutes later. Rinne blanked the Penguins after Sidney Crosby scored on a breakaway late in the first period.
PARIS (AP) — Top seed Andy Murray and No. 3 Stan Wawrinka (vah-VRIHN’-kah) have advanced to the French Open quarterfinals with straight-sets victories on Monday. Joining Murray and Wawrinka in the quarters are No. 8 Kei Nishikori (kay nee-shee-KOHR’-ee) and seventh seed Marin Cilic (CHEE’-lihch). Second seed Karolina Pliskova, third seed Simona Halep (HAH’-lehp), fifth seed Elina Svitolina and No. 28 Carolina Garcia reached the women’s quarters.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Houston Astros have run their winning streak to 11 games by whipping the Royals, 7-3 in Kansas City. Yuli Gurriel (YOO’-lee gur-ee-EHL’) smacked a three-run homer and Brian McCann hit a two-run shot in the Astros’ team record-tying 11th consecutive road win. Houston is 22-6 on the road this season and a major league-best 42-16, giving them a 14-game lead in the American League West.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Washington Nationals are a National League-best 36-20 following their sixth win in seven games, 4-2 over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. Anthony Rendon (rehn-DOHN’) launched a solo homer and Matt Wieters (WEE’-turz) singled home a pair to help Washington win a rematch its 2016 division series. The Dodgers reached Gio Gonzalez for two runs and just four hits over six innings.
UNDATED (AP) — The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers are back in a virtual first-place tie in the National League Central. Kris Bryant belted a two-run homer and Albert Almora Jr. added a solo blast as the Cubs beat the Marlins, 3-1 to improve to 4-0 on their 10-game homestand. Pinch-hitter Aaron Hill laced a tiebreaking, two-run double in the eighth before the Giants completed a 7-2 win over the Brewers at Milwaukee.
