Two Hammer Tour Workers Shot At Hotel; One Killed
CHICAGO (AP) _ Two workers touring with rap performer Hammer were shot - one fatally - during a confrontation at a hotel, police said.
The workers struggled with three men who were disturbing guests early Monday at the Guest Quarters Suite Hotel, where Hammer’s group and the group Boyz II Men were spending the night, said police Lt. Rich Stevens. The groups are touring together, and had performed Sunday in suburban Chicago.
″They were knocking on doors, waking people up, asking where the liquor was,″ Stevens said. ″There is no information that says these people were after that band. It appears to be a random incident.″
Police continued to search for the three men today.
Roderick Roundtree, a production and security worker with Boyz II Men, and his assistant, Quadree El-Manin, came out of their rooms and began struggling with the three. The two workers were shot as they led the intruders to the lobby. One of the suspects also may have been shot, Stevens said.
Roundtree, 36, of Canoga Park, Calif., was killed. El-Manin, 29, of Philadelphia, was shot in the knee. He was in fair condition today.
