(AP) _ Darnell Mee scored 18 points as Western Kentucky beat No. 13 New Orleans 72-63 in the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship Monday night, breaking the Privateers’ 13-game winning streak and earning an automatic NCAA tournament bid. Western Kentucky (24-5) will make its 14th tournament appearance and first since 1987. The Hilltoppers have won 14 of their last 16 games, losing in that stretch only to New Orleans (26-3), which also is expected to go to the NCAA. Ervin Johnson led New Orleans with 22 points. IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa overcame its worst first half of the season to hand Northwestern its 27th consecutive loss in Iowa City. Wade Lookingbill scored 13 points and Val Barnes added 11 for Iowa (20-8, 9-7 Big Ten). The 17th-ranked Hawkeyes (20-8 overall, 9-7 Big Ten) broke a two-game losing streak, while Northwestern fell to 8-18, 3-14. PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Lou Roe’s 24 points and tough team defense led Massachusetts into the finals of the Atlantic 10 tournament. Massachusetts (22-6) earned the right to defend its conference championship Thursday night at home against either St. Joseph’s or Temple. The Minutemen held the Rams (18-10) to their lowest point total since a 67-63 loss at Rutgers on Feb. 23. Rhode Island had not previously lost by more than 13 points. Abdul Fox had 14 points for the Rams.
