Dogs taken from ‘meat farm’ ready to be adopted
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — Dogs that were brought to the Washington area from a “meat farm” in South Korea are taking a step toward finding permanent homes.
Representatives of the Humane Society of the United States negotiated to take the 23 dogs away from the farm, where they were being raised for meat. The farm was shut down, and the farmer was compensated to start growing crops instead.
The animals have spent this week at the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, where they’ve undergone testing for diseases. On Friday, most of them will be transferred to five other shelters in northern Virginia and the District of Columbia. Before they leave, the directors of the shelters will speak at a news conference alongside the pups. They’ll be working to find people to adopt the dogs.
