Markets Starts Narrowly Mixed

New York (AP) _ Stock prices have started narrowly mixed on Wall Street.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average is ahead two points. Decliners outnumber advancers by a slim margin on the New York Stock Exchange.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is down a fraction and the Standard-and-Poor’s 500 Stock Index is also down fractionally.

Wall Street likely will have to overcome weakness in the semiconductor sector to post any gains today.

Several chip-maker stocks have been downgraded, most notably Intel, putting that sector in the spotlight.

Separately, one brokerage is predicting that Microsoft will be able to top analysts’ estimates for its quarterly earnings.

There are no economic releases of note this morning, but Wall Street will be getting a visit from President Bush.

The president is scheduled to deliver a speech in lower Manhattan, addressing corporate mismanagement.
