Council to hold public hearings, Santa around town this week

The Katy City Council is scheduled to meet Monday with a trio of public hearings highlighting the busy agenda.

The council is set to meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Katy City Hall at 901 Avenue C.

The public hearings are in reference to special-use permits for Hispanic Pentecostal Missionary Church, Parkway Fellowship and the Church at Cane Island.

Hispanic Penteconstal Missionary Church will be in 1,255 feet of space at 653 Pin Oak Road, Suite A-7; Parkway Fellowship will be in 8,125 feet of space at 5819 10th St., Suite A; and the Church at Cane Island will be 4,800 feet of space at 5315 Highway Blvd.

After the public hearings, the council is expected to consider ordinances on amending zoning ordinances.

Also on the council agenda is accepting award letters from the Texas Department of Transportation. The letters are part of Hurricane Harvey claims from FEMA. The two letters amount to more than $503,000.

City Christmas Tree

Katy’s official Christmas Tree Lighting event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Katy City Hall, 901 Ave. C. the event will include a retelling of the Christmas story by Mayor Chuck Brawner, entertainment from local choirs and dance companies. Santa will also be here for photos. Great Harvest Bread Katy, Tx and Frosted Betty Bakeshop food trucks will join the event.

Toys for Tots

The city is participating in a Marine Toys for Tots drive. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to City Hall now through Friday, Dec.7. You can also bring a donation to the Christmas Tree Lighting event on Thursday, Nov. 29.

Pancakes with Santa

The Katy Professional Fire Fighters’ Association is scheduled to host Pancakes with Santa from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Katy Fire Department at 1417 Avenue D in Katy.

Pancake plates will go for $5. Funds raised will support the association’s efforts in sending a Katy ISD student to a fire academy, emergence medical technician school or paramedic school. The event is sponsored by KPFFA Local 5192.

Santa around town

With the help of the Katy Fire Department, Santa Claus will be making tours around the greater Katy area.

This week, Santa is scheduled to make tours beginning at 6:30 p.m.:

On Monday in West Katy, Victoria Lakes, Danover, Falcon Point Apartments and N & S Woods.

On Tuesday in downtown Katy, Avenue B, Avenue C, 10th and 13th streets, Whispering Lakes, and K, A, T, Y streets.

On Wednesday in Heritage Meadows, Katyland, Airline, Drexel and Katy Manor Apartments.

On Thursday, Santa will be at the Christmas Tree Lighting event at Katy City Hall.

On Friday, in Village Green, Elder, Carson, Town Park, Pineview Terrace, Patina & Fortuna and Heritage Park West.

More tours will be held the week of Dec. 3-7 and Dec. 10 in Firethorne.

Along the route, Santa and his helpers will accept canned goods for local food pantries along with new, unwrapped toys for the Toys for Tots program.
