Steve King dodges question when asked about superiority of white societies

Rep. Steve King avoided answering a question on Tuesday asking whether he felt “a white society is superior to a nonwhite society.”

“I don’t have an answer for that. That’s so hypothetical,” the Republican congressman said in Iowa, The New York Times reported.

However, he added, “America is not a white society it has never been a completely white society. We came here and joined the Native Americans.”

Mr. King has a history of stirring controversy with remarks about immigration and the changing demographics in the U.S.

This Monday, he posted a meme to his Facebook page wondering “who would win” another American civil war.

Mr. King allegedly equated “white nationalism” and “western civilization” in a newspaper interview in January. Mr. King said the quote was misinterpreted.

Republican leadership stripped Mr. King of all of his committee assignments, a stunning rebuke in response to his white nationalist comments.
