Utah State AD Resigns

July 10, 1999

LOGAN, Utah (AP) _ Utah State athletic director Bruce Van De Velde resigned Friday to become an associate AD at Oklahoma.

Van De Velde said he is leaving for his family and for the professional opportunity at Oklahoma, where he will be the senior associate AD.

``I appreciate the opportunity to have served as director this past year and am grateful for the support shown to the program during my time here,″ Van De Velde said.

His resignation is effective July 28.

Van De Velde was hired at Utah State just over a year ago to replace Chuck Bell, who became AD at San Jose. Before that, Van De Velde was an associate AD at Missouri.

While at Utah State, Van De Velde hired basketball coach Stew Morrill, the second-winningest coach in Colorado State’s history, and women’s volleyball coach Tom Peterson, who won the men’s volleyball national championship while at Penn State.
