HUNTINGTON — Stephen West Perrine, a senior at Huntington High School, has been awarded the 2019 President Stephen J. Kopp Memorial Huntington Rotary Club Scholarship. The scholarship provides $1,250 per year and is renewable for up to four years, for a total of $5,000, by maintaining satisfactory progress in his program of study at Marshall University.
Perrine has been a member of Huntington High’s football team, weight lifting group, Spirit Club, Art Honorary and National Honor Society. He has volunteered at the WSAZ Invitational Wrestling Tournament and helps keep the city of Huntington clean with his lawn care service. He also volunteers at Cabell Huntingvorston Hospital’s Cancer Survi Picnic and Senior Fest. Perrine has maintained a 4.1 grade point average, in addition to balancing extracurricular activities and volunteer efforts.
The Rotary Club of Huntington established the scholarship in December 1992, making a commitment to provide Marshall University scholarship funding to assist deserving high school graduates in the club’s geographic area, which includes Huntington High, St. Joe, Grace Christian and Covenant Schools. The guidelines for the scholarship include academic strength, financial need, demonstrated public service while in high school and an understanding of public service as revealed in an essay. To date, 29 students have received this award.
