June 12, 2018

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a man has drowned after falling off a raft in a lake at the New Jersey shore.

Manchester police responded to Harry Wright Lake around 6:30 p.m. Monday and soon found 20-year-old Luis Angel Meyo-Jimenez in the water. Authorities say the 20-year-old Toms River man had been on a raft near the lake’s floating dock when he fell off for an unknown reason.

Manchester officer Chris Walaszek entered the water and was able to pull Meyo-Jimenez to shore with the help of volunteer firefighters. Meyo-Jimenez was then taken to a hospital but died there a short time later.

No other injuries were reported in the incident, which remains under investigation.
