Deserving of recognition

September 26, 2018

This week, representatives of the Daily News and First National Bank of Norfolk will have the pleasure of officially honoring the 2018 inductees into the Norfolk Area Business Hall of Fame, as well as the recipient of this year’s “emerging business” award.

What a gratifying task that will be.

Lou’s Thrifty-Way Market of Norfolk and Bluebird Nursery of Clarkson are the Norfolk and area, respectively, inductees into the hall of fame while Real Estate Solutions Team of Norfolk is the emerging business award honoree.

All three will receive framed and matted copies of the editions of the Daily News from last month when their selections were publicly announced.

Much like last year’s initial three honorees — Appeara of Norfolk, Husker Ag of Plainview and Mama’s and Nana’s Cafe of Neligh — the 2018 recipients are certainly deserving of the public recognition.

Kim and Russ Wilcox of Real Estate Solutions Team, for example, not only operate a successful and growing real estate company, but they also chose to invest in downtown Norfolk and provide additional business and residential space there.

Bluebird Nursery serves as an economic mainstay for the community of Clarkson. The members of the Hamernik family have a long history of wholesale and retail excellence and their reputation is worldwide.

Lou’s Thrifty Way Market is the epitome of a family-run business that values its employees and customers. The Brtek family strives for excellence in all that they do, including providing a training ground for countless young employees over the decades.

The members of the hall of fame selection committee did not have an easy or quick task in selecting this year’s honorees.

That’s because there was a wealth of deserving nominations submitted for the hall and the emerging business award that deserved consideration. What could be more encouraging than that for this corner of the state?

It’s the Daily News’ pleasure and privilege — and we feel safe in saying First National Bank feels likewise — to be able to honor these three firms as a way of showcasing the kind of quality businesses and individuals that call Norfolk and the area their home.
