CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) _ Gary Burnham and Kurt Bultman homered Saturday as Clemson moved within one victory of the NCAA Atlantic Regional championship with a 6-3 victory Saturday over West Virginia.

Clemson (48-15) needs one more win Sunday to go reach the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Ken Vining (10-3) pitched his third complete game of the season and Clemson’s second of the tournament. Despite a sore left pitching hand, he struck out nine and had no walks.

``I never get tired of saying this, but we had another great pitching performance by Ken Vining,″ said Clemson coach Jack Leggett. ``Our starting pitching has been outstanding.″

The Mountaineers (33-24) were to play the winner of the Georgia Southern-Tennessee afternoon game later Saturday.

Clemson jumped on top 2-0 in the second inning off Jason Hively (4-6), but the Mountaineers scored one run in the top of the third.

The Tigers extended their lead to 5-1 with two runs in the fourth on Burnham’s home run and three infield singles, and another run in the fifth.

West Virginia then scored twice in the sixth to slice Clemson’s lead to 5-3 after Joe McNamee led off with a double. Abe Barker and Josh Williamson hit back-to-back singles to score McNamee, and Barker scored on a ground out.

Bultman’s homer in the bottom of sixth gave the Tigers a 6-3 cushion.
