September 6, 2018

BREWSTER - A local man was arrested on weapons charges after police said he was firing a rifle in a residential area.

Geuorgui Stoytchev, 38, of Southeast, is facing several charges including criminal possession of a fiream and reckless endangerment for the incident, which occurred on Sept. 1. Officers with the New York State Environmental Conservation Police make the arrest after residents complained of hearing shots fired near Bloomer Road.

Authorities said Stoytchev was found shooting a legally owned Winchester 30-30 across Route 6 and within 500 feet of neighboring houses. When troopers returned to Stoytchev’s home later in the evening, they discovered an illegally owned Phoenix Arms .25 caliber handgun and a small quantity of marijuana.

Stoytchev was arraigned before the village of Brewster Court, and remanded to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
