Big Rock woman in fair condition after being airlifted to hospital following rollover crash Tuesday

April 3, 2019

SANDWICH – A Big Rock woman was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove Tuesday after her vehicle swerved off the road and rolled over in a ditch.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 3 p.m. Tuesday to a call in the 6000 block of East Sandwich Road, in between Hinckley and Sandwich, for a Jeep Cherokee involved in a single-vehicle accident, according to a news release.

Christine H. Flanigan, 51, of the 200 block of McDermott Road, was northbound on East Sandwich Road when the Jeep swerved off the road, struck a driveway culvert, and rolled over in the east ditch.

Sheriff’s Deputy Andy Sullivan said it’s unclear what caused Flanigan to swerve off the road.

“She for some reason left the roadway,” Sullivan said. “It was improper lane use for some reason, and she somehow lost control when entering a ditch and striking a culver which caused the vehicle to roll over.”

Flanigan was airlifted to the hospital, where she was listed in fair condition Wednesday, said Nathan Lurz, public affairs coordinator with the hospital.

Flanigan was also cited for not wearing a seatbelt.
