Top-ranked Cougars off on another WCC road trip
The top-ranked BYU women’s volleyball team will finish out a three-match West Coast Conference road swing with two matches this week.
The Cougars (6-0 WCC, 16-0 overall) travel to San Francisco on Thursday and finish up in Santa Clara on Saturday. The Dons, who finished 3-28 last season, were picked to finish 10th in the WCC but posted a 7-4 preseason mark. USF is 1-5 in WCC play. BYU has never lost to San Francisco (16-0).
The Cougars are 11-4 against Santa Clara but are just 3-5 at the Leavey Center.
Senior outside hitter Roni Jones-Perry earned the WCC’s Player of the Week award for the second straight time after logging 23 kills and hitting .465 in last Friday’s 3-1 win at San Diego. BYU lost a set for the first time in more than a month, but earned an important victory against its most talented league foe.
The Cougars continue to lead the nation in hitting percentage (.338) and freshman middle blocker Heather Gneiting is 8th in the country individually (.419).
