High Arts Festival to award $32,000 in cash prizes to winning artists

AKRON, Ohio – Some $32,000 in cash prizes for artists are up for grabs at the second annual High Arts Festival, which runs through Oct. 6 at venues throughout Akron’s Historic Arts District.

Votes by jury and the public will determine which artists receive prizes in the categories of visual art, film, literary art and music. The grand prize winners for public and juried votes in each category will receive $3,000, and the two runners-up in each category will receive $1,000.

Event attendees can vote for their favorite entries via the High Arts Festival app, available for free for Apple and Android devices. Event attendance is required in order to vote. Votes can be cast from the event venue or at any time after a check-in has been enabled. Voting kiosks are also available at each venue during the festival weekends.

Registered voters 16 and older may cast up to five votes in each genre. Voters who cast all five votes and complete a short survey will unlock a sixth vote and be entered into a drawing to win a $100 gift card at a downtown Akron business of their choice.

Closing night for the festival will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 6. Winners will be announced at 9:30 p.m.
