Former Playmate Jailed for DWI

December 14, 2000

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) _ Former Playboy Playmate Penny Baker has been sentenced to a month a jail for driving while intoxicated.

Baker, named Playboy’s 30th anniversary Playmate in 1984, was also fined $1,000 Wednesday after pleading guilty.

It was her fifth DWI arrest since 1990.

Baker, 35, told Judge Michael Pietruszka that she knows that she was wrong and wants to ``get on with my life.″

Baker’s lawyer, Leonard Krawczyk Jr., said seven years had passed between Baker’s last DWI arrest and the most recent incident in May.

The judge delayed the start of Baker’s jail term until the day after Christmas. Baker could have gotten four years in prison.

The judge suspended Baker’s license for a year _ the maximum _ and ordered her to continue alcoholism treatment.

Baker’s lawyer said the publicity she received as a Playmate contributed to her drinking problem: ``A lot of celebrity was perhaps too much for a girl at that young age.″
