Dragons rally to edge Meigs in Throwdown
ROME TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Fairland outscored Meigs 24-15 in the fourth quarter to defeat the Marauders 47-43 in the f inal game of the Tri-State Hoops Throwdown girls high school basketball showcase Saturday night at the Carl York Center.
Allie Marshall scored 12 points, nine in the fourth period, to lead Fairland (11-4). Kelsie Warnock scored 11. Becca Pullins led Meigs (8-7) with 16 points.
Fairland returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Monday in a key Ohio Valley Conference game at Coal Grove (12-3). Meigs also plays at 7:30 p.m. Monday, entertaining Eastern-Meigs.
In other games in the Throwdown on Saturday, Unioto beat Spring Valley 56-40, Minford defeated Coal Grove 52-36, Portsmout h Notre Dame toppled Huntington High 53-41, and Parkersburg edged Boyd County 71-65.

PARKERSBURG 71, BOYD COUNTY 65: Bre Wilson’s 24 points helped the Big Reds over the Lions Saturday at the Tri-State Hoops Showdown at Fairland High School.
Shay-Lee Kirby added 18 points and eight rebounds for Parkersburg (13-1). Madi Mace chipped in 10 points. Boyd County (16-3) got a gamehigh 40 points from Savannah Wheeler, who was 20 for 21 from the free throw line. Harley Paynter added 17.
GEORGE ROGERS CLARK 75, JOHNSON CENTRAL 56: Brennan Canada connected on 10 of 14 shots Saturday and scored 25 for George Rogers Clark (13-3) at home in Winchester, Kentucky. Jacob Rice and Isaiah May scored 18 and 12 respectively for Johnson Central (14-6).
WINFIELD 64, WYOMING E AST 62: Hunter Morris scored at the buzzer off a feed from Bryant Moore on an inbound play to give the win to the host Generals (6-7). It capped a career-high 23-point game for Morris. Also for Winfield, Nate Vance had 16 points and Zach Simpkins 14. For the Warriors, McQuade Canada tallied 25 points and R.J. Hood 13.
WEST CARTER 60, GREENUP COUNTY 44: Rodney Evans scored 15 to lift the Comets (11-6) to a Saturday triumph over the Musketeers (6-13). Trace Tackett scored 13 and Ethan Adkins 10. Elijah Raby led Greenup County with 10 points.
