Victim badly injured in shooting
A male was critically injured in what police called “a gun battle” tonight on the city’s south side.
The person, whom police said they were not sure if he was an adult or a juvenile, was not identified by investigators. He was outside of a home in the 6100 block of Landsdowne Drive around 8:05 p.m. when a red Ford F-150 pickup “drove past (him) and at least one person inside the pickup engaged in a gun battle with the male victim,” Fort Wayne police said in a news release.
He was struck by at least one bullet, and he was in critical condition Tuesday night. The pickup also might have been struck by gunfire, according to police.
Detectives have not determined a motive for the shooting, and they are working to figure out who owns a handgun found on Landsdowne Drive. Several shell casings also were found, police said.
A good Samaritan flagged down officers at East Hawthorne Street and Decatur Road to alert them to the injured male, investigators said.
