Colo. Grants Female Kicker Release
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) _ Katie Hnida, a kicker who joined the Colorado football team last fall, has been given a release, clearing her to possibly transfer.
Coach Gary Barnett has said she might be interested in going to Washington, where former Buffaloes coach Rick Neuheisel is now the coach.
Neuheisel had invited Hnida to try out for the team in spring 1999. Barnett honored the invitation when Neuheisel left.
As a freshman last season, Hnida became the first woman to appear on a Colorado football roster. She suited up for the Kansas game and the Insight.com Bowl but did not play.
She has not been on the squad this fall. When other walk-ons reported, athletic officials said she had tonsillitis.
