Conn. in top 5 in casino revenue, No. 1 in decline
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A report on how much revenue Indian casinos raised in 2012 says Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort casinos had the best and the worst financial performance.
Casino City’s Indian Gaming Industry Report, which was released on Wednesday, says Connecticut was in the top five states in revenue brought in by the casinos, totaling $1.85 billion. Only California, Oklahoma, Washington and Florida had better revenue numbers.
But revenue at the two casinos was down 8.3 percent in 2012, the steepest decline in the United States. In contrast, Alaskan casinos were No. 1 in the United States, posting a 20 percent revenue increase.
Alan Meister, the report’s author, says casinos in the Northeast are struggling with intense competition. Casinos nationwide also are working hard to overcome the impact of the weak economy.
