Moss Point increases water rates in new budget year
MOSS POINT, Miss. (AP) — A city on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is increasing water rates in the new budget year.
The Mississippi Press reports that Moss Point officials adopted a spending plan last week for the year that begins Monday.
The budget relies, in part, on collecting more money for water. The city had been charging $14 for the first 3,000 gallons of water. In the new year, that rate will increase to $17.20 for the first 3,000 gallons.
Mayor Mario King says the $16.9 million Moss Point budget is as lean as possible.
To save money, the budget caps overtime for hourly employees who work for the city.
