Judge resigns amid probe into misconduct allegations
LOCKPORT, N.Y. (AP) — A veteran New York town judge will resign amid accusations he denigrated a fellow judge from the bench and made culturally and racially insensitive comments.
Court documents show Lockport Town Justice Leonard Tilney Jr. resigned in a letter dated Aug. 8. He said he would vacate the office by the end of the day on Sept. 30.
WKBW-TV reports Tilney has been a judge in the town court since 2004.
Court documents say Tilney was aware of the investigation alleging he had committed misconduct both on and off the bench at various times in 2017. The allegations include making a culturally insensitive comment to a defendant during sentencing and posting racially offensive material in the courthouse office.
