ERIE — A man has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole plus 20 to 40 years after pleading guilty in the murders of his wife and her adult daughter in their northwestern Pennsylvania home.


WILLIAMSPORT — A Pennsylvania man convicted in the death of his 12-year-old daughter, who was shot by a constable serving eviction papers, is scheduled to go on trial soon in a related charge.


WATERBURY, Vt. — Vermont’s out-of-state inmates being housed in Pennsylvania will be moved to a prison in Mississippi, after complaints about treatment, medical care and several inmate deaths.



MEADVILLE — All the parking spots along North Street in front of Bender Field were taken. The lot down the hill near Shady Brook Park was full as well. Inside the stadium, the home-side bleachers had a decent amount of people in them. The most bustling action, though, was on the turf at Bender Field. Stretching from one end zone to the other were dozens of young kids. And as the morning progressed, more groups of kids began to appear. These kids were wearing full football gear — padded pants, shoulder pads, helmets. The busy scene at Bender Field presented a youth football program that was thriving — just what brothers Mike and Matt Feleppa had in mind when they took over the Meadville Little Gridders program this year. FATAL SCHOOL BUS CRASH — Authorities say a multivehicle crash involving a school bus in western Pennsylvania has left the bus driver dead.

STATE POLICE SHOOTING — Pennsylvania state police say troopers shot and wounded a man armed with a rifle who was making threats to himself, neighbors and police.

OFFICER DRAGGED — Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer was briefly dragged when a driver tried to flee from a traffic stop.

SHOOTING-BELLEVUE — Police in western Pennsylvania say a man has been critically injured in a shooting.(backslash)

ACCUSED PRIEST-COLLEGE HALL RENAMED — A West Pennsylvania college has renamed its student activity center after receiving credible allegations of sexual abuse against the hall’s previous clerical namesake.



PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles have signed wide receiver Jordan Matthews and placed Mike Wallace on injured reserve.
