Donald Trump urges Elizabeth Warren to seek presidency: ‘Please, please run!’

October 2, 2018

At least one Republican wants Sen. Elizabeth Warren to run for president in 2020, and he’s sitting in the Oval Office.

President Trump said he would welcome the Massachusetts Democrat’s candidacy during his speech Monday night in Johnston City, Tennessee.

“They [Democrats] have moved so far left that Pocahontas is considered a conservative,” Mr. Trump said. “Elizabeth Warren. She said she’s considering a run for the presidency.”

He put his hands together as if in prayer and said, “Please, please run!”

Ms. Warren, who’s running for re-election, said she would take “a hard look at running for president” after November at a Saturday town hall in Holyoke, Massachusetts, her strongest indication to date about a possible presidential run.

The Republican president took a swipe at another potential candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, who said in March that if they were in high school, “I’d take him behind the gym and beat the hell out of him.”

“Biden. He’s a real genius,” Mr. Trump said at the rally. ” ‘I want to challenge him to a fight behind the barn.’ Oh, would I love that. Wouldn’t that be good?”

The president spoke at the Make America Great Again rally on behalf of Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who’s running for Senate.
