Mich. Rep. Dingell Hospitalized
WASHINGTON (AP) _ Rep. John Dingell of Michigan, the most senior member of the House,is hospitalized after fainting at the end of a dinner gala.
His wife, Debbie Dingell, said today that Dingell was in good condition at George Washington University Hospital as a result of the incident Tuesday night. ``He’s fine. I wouldn’t have left him is he wasn’t,″ Mrs. Dingell said by telephone.
She said she expected to take the congressman back to his Virginia home today.
The congressman, had ``exercised vigorously″ before the dinner, had donated a pint of blood, and then failed to drink enough fluids, instead having a martini at dinner, Mrs. Dingell said.
Dingell, 73, fainted at around 9:30 p.m. near the end of the dinner held by Peace Links, an international network of women committed to finding alternatives to violence.
He was taken from the dinner by wheelchair. Queen Noor of Jordan, who was attending the dinner, came over to comfort Mrs. Dingell.
