Piff the Magic Dragon: Mr. Piffles at Southern

October 9, 2018

When he’s not performing in his longtime gig on the Las Vegas strip, Piff the Magic Dragon is doing his magic on tour — with trusty sidekick Mr. Piffles the chihuahua in tow.

Piff, whose given name is John van der Put, is a 38-year-old comedian from the United Kingdom who did pretty well on the 10th season of “America’s Got Talent.” (In a poster, he bills himself as “Loser of ‘America’s Got Talent’”)

The tour brings him to John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts Saturday, Oct. 20, as part of his The Dog Who Knows tour. (Mr. Piffles participates in the magic, or at least tolerates it.)

Did we mention Piff performs in a handmade dragon costume? Yeah, it’s all part of the act, which is a bit of a dry English spoof, if we’re throwing about words that end in “f.” It works though, and he has more than 12 million hits on YouTube; he also has had five runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and two sellout seasons at SoHo Theatre in London’s West End.

Lyman Center at SCSU, 501 Crescent St., New Haven. Saturday, Oct, 20, 8 p.m. $25-$15. tickets.southernct.edu
