Bond said at $75,000 for accused bank robber
SYCAMORE – Bond was set at $75,000 Wednesday for a Sterling man accused of robbing a Shabbona bank.
Jason D. Welch, 39, is charged with financial institution robbery, which carries 4 to 15 years in prison, and robbery.
Should he post the $7,500 needed to be released, he’ll be placed on electronic home monitoring.
Welch entered the lobby at Shabbona Resource Bank, 102 S. Indian Road, about 11:40 a.m. Saturday, said he had a gun but didn’t show one, and made off with an undisclosed amount of money, DeKalb County Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan said.
Surveillance video from the bank identified him; video also showed him fleeing east on U.S. Route 30 in a green sedan. The car was found Sunday in downtown Chicago with evidence inside; Welch was arrested Sunday evening in the 500 block of West Grand Avenue in Elmhurst, investigators said.
