Man accused in car theft now charged with murdering woman
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities say a West Virginia man accused of stealing a car from an 86-year-old woman and hitting her as he drove away has been charged with murder following her death.
The Journal reports court records show 36-year-old Adam Lee Domer of Martinsburg is charged in the death of Joan Staubs. Authorities say Staubs was injured Sept. 2 and died Friday.
Domer was arraigned Monday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court on felony charges of robbery, malicious wounding and grand larceny. Magistrate Harry Snow said the public defender’s office was assigned to the case, but filed a motion to withdraw due to a conflict.
A criminal complaint says Domer admitted to driving the stolen vehicle, but said he was not the one who stole it and denied hurting Staubs.
